Being 88, I have lived over a third of the life of the United States. How about you? What a privilege and a joy it has been to have been chosen to be a part of this great nation. God has shown over these years that he has a special plan for this country, both for the people living here as well as around the world. I’m not sure there’s ever been a more benevolent nation, here and abroad. Countless Christian missionaries who have served and are serving in virtually every country. Some have even given their lives for the sake of the gospel. Not counting the millions of men and women who have given their lives in wars to preserve the freedoms Americans enjoy and bring peace and order to this chaotic and sinful world.
Our roots are Judeo-Christian and God has used this alliance to help preserve Israel. America has been the strongest ally to Israel over the past several decades, and still is today. I for one think this is very significant for the future of America. Simply put, this is God’s country, and we are his stewards. I love reciting this. “One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all!” That’s the essence of America.
We are not without our minor and major issues, but God!! As in the time of Solomon, as it related to the future of Israel, these verses are so appropriate to America and its future. It was at a time of celebration with the Temple being completed and dedicated. Lean in. “When I shut up the heavens so there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chron. 7.14). Christian, my people are you and me, the Body of Christ, the Church!
This great country was not founded on easy street, sitting on a sofa. It required dedication and sacrifice. No different than what we will face going forward. So, put on the full armor of God that he has provided in Ephesians 6, and be prepared for battle. Fight the good fight and watch America prosper for the kingdom of God.
