As we move through this journey called life, I suggest that all of us are continually on the lookout for something that brings beauty and peace in our life. We try to please our senses. With our eyes, we admire beautiful art, sunsets, exotic trips, autos, the opposite sex, jewelry etc. With our ears it may be music, secular or Christian, kind or encouraging words, a favorite person’s voice, and more. And with our heart, we explore uncharted waters, romantic relationships, truth, peaceful opportunities and what to worship. That’s why there’s so many billboards and social media posts and ads. They know our hearts and they understand the visuals and sounds that appeal.

But are they satisfying, except for the short term? Man was created to worship. And the things of this world appeal to our senses. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s just not everlasting. We’re always looking for hope, that which keeps us getting up every morning and moving forward into the world. As a believer we can take hope in God’s word. One such verse captured my total imagination recently.

‘But as it is written: “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”’ (1 Cor. 2.9). Folks, this world is only a weak preview of what is to come when we leave this sin-marred world and enter into the presence of our Lord. God has prepared a kingdom for those who love him which will defy our wildest imagination. And the glorious part about it, it’s not going to be like a short vacation or day trip to a museum…it is forever. And nothing will mar its beauty. Breathtaking to say the least.

And how will we be able to behold this? God made sure it would be possible, not with our physical senses, but through the Spirit. “These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God” (vs. 10). Believer, does this excite you? It should. This world is our temporary home, we are just passing through on the way to eternal, everlasting beauty, joy and fulfillment of our heart’s true desire. His name is Jesus! Our magnificent Lord and Savior. Do I hear an AMEN?
