Have you ever stopped to consider all the times you’ve doubted your value in your business, your family, on a sports team, the church, whatever? Doubt is a powerful lever to remove us from right thinking about ourselves. Not in a prideful way, but in a humble and contrite way. But nevertheless, if you are a born-again believer, trusting in the gospel of Jesus Christ, you are so much more than what your doubts speak to you about. The very first temptation in the garden of Eden, as recorded in Genesis 3, was doubt. Satan asked Eve, “Did God really say”? Her, and Adam’s, response had its immediate and devastating consequences. “Maybe we could have more, even be like God”.
And what is so amazing is that God had spent the first five days of creation giving Adam and Eve every single thing they would ever need to succeed, to rule and reign on earth, and to live with God for eternity. They had a choice, and so do we. Will we continue to live in the world of doubt, or truly understand who we are in Christ. It is, as the Bible says, so much more! It requires faith to believe who we are. And it’s not pride or egotistic, it’s a true fact as recorded in Scripture. I have reviewed a few of the “much more” verses in the Bible. Take time to really hone in on each one of these.
“Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds”! Luke 12:24
“For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God”. Hebrews 9:13,14
“Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God”. Romans 5:9
“For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life”. Romans 5:10
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him”! Matthew 7:11
“For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory”. 2 Corinthians 3:9 NKJV
“For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ”. Romans 5:17
Yes, you were once evil, an enemy of God, lost, unrighteous, self-centered, prideful, worldly, running from God and so very much more!! But, in the righteousness of Christ, all of this and more has been forgiven, you’ve been reconciled with God, and you are now “more than conquerors”. Lean into this!
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” Rom. 8.37-39.
Now, no more doubting!
